Summer has packed its bags. The heather has finished flowering. The first leaves have already fallen. Not only does autumn make its appearance. It’s also the season when Gartner published the new version of its famous Magic Quadrant for Low-Code. And for the first time, there is also a Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Low-Code Application Platforms.
Gartner® Magic Quadrants™
The above diagrams are the Gartner Magic Quadrant of 2020 and 2021 respectively. It should be noted once again that the 2021 version focuses on Enterprise Low Code Application Platforms. This excludes both No Code platforms and platforms that target only the Citizen Developer. This ensures, for example, that Betty Blocks is missing from the 2021 diagram. They explicitly profile themselves as the No Code platform for the Citizen Developer.

Strong shift
The fact that this nuance in the Magic Quadrant has caused players to drop out is not the only thing that stands out. The diagram below shows the shift from 2020 to 2021.
- The ability to deliver among the 5 leaders, has increased significantly.
- Based on the growth in vision, it’s not weird to assume that there will soon be three leaders left: Mendix, Microsoft and OutSystems.
- Growth in Microsoft’s vision is rated relatively stronger.
- By scaling to enterprise, Appian and Pega’s vision lags behind.
- Oracle can’t catch on; they’ve been in about the same spot since 2019.
